Description and specifications
Research Compound GHRP-6 is a laboratory material for analytical and in vitro work.
What is GHRP-6?
GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide with the sequence His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 and a molecular weight of approximately 873 Da.
Research background
GHRP-6 was developed in the early 1980s by Cyril Bowers at Tulane University, starting from modified enkephalin sequences. Its ability to stimulate GH release via an unknown receptor led to the cloning of the GHS receptor in 1996 and, in 1999, to the discovery of ghrelin as its endogenous ligand. GHRP-6 is therefore a historically pivotal compound for the entire field.
Mechanism and scientific context
GHRP-6 is an agonist of the GHS-R1a receptor. Beyond pituitary GH signalling, in experimental models it is associated with hypothalamic pathways regulating energy intake, reflecting the physiological role of the ghrelin system.
Main research areas
