Description and specifications
Research Material HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin) is a laboratory material for analytical and in vitro work, available in a 75 IU variant.
What is hMG?
Human menopausal gonadotropin (menotropin) is not a single molecule but a preparation containing the biological activity of two glycoprotein hormones: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH). Activity is expressed in international units for each hormone separately.
Research background
The preparation was developed in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Italian chemist Piero Donini devised a process for extracting gonadotropins from the urine of postmenopausal women, in whom their concentration is elevated. Pharmaceutical hMG preparations have their own regulatory documentation.
Mechanism and scientific context
FSH and LH act via separate G-protein-coupled receptors (FSHR and LHCGR) on different gonadal cells. Both hormones share the alpha subunit, with specificity conferred by the beta subunit. The ratio of FSH to LH activity in the preparation is key to its profile.
Main research areas
- FSH and LH receptor biology
- glycoprotein hormones
- folliculogenesis in experimental models
- standardisation of biological activity
Analytical considerations
Because it is a mixture of hormones, characterisation is more complex than for a single short peptide: the activity of each component must be determined separately.

COA on request
To enquire about a certificate of analysis (COA), send the material name, requested variant and LOT / batch number if available. Documents are not published on this page.
Request a COA by emailThe button opens your email app with a prepared enquiry. You send the message yourself. peptivapeptides@protonmail.com
A COA applies to a specific batch and documents the analytical parameters tested for that batch. The product is intended strictly for laboratory, analytical and in vitro research.
