Description and specifications
Research Compound Somatropin is a laboratory material for analytical and in vitro work, available in a 36 IU variant.
What is somatropin?
Somatropin is recombinant human growth hormone: a 191-amino-acid protein with two disulfide bridges and a molecular weight of approximately 22 kDa. Its sequence is identical to the main form of growth hormone secreted by the pituitary.
Research background
Growth hormone was formerly obtained from the pituitaries of deceased donors. Recombinant somatropin was developed in the early 1980s and, after 1985, completely replaced pituitary-derived hormone once it was found that the pituitary preparation could transmit Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It was one of the first recombinant proteins in widespread use.
Mechanism and scientific context
A single GH molecule binds two GH receptors simultaneously, activating the kinase JAK2 and the transcription factor STAT5. Downstream, GH stimulates IGF-1 synthesis in the liver and other tissues. Biological activity depends on correct protein folding, not just chemical purity.
Main research areas
- the GH receptor and JAK2/STAT5 signalling
- the GH/IGF axis
- recombinant protein production
- protein folding and stability
Analytical considerations
As a large protein, somatropin is susceptible to aggregation and deamidation. HPLC purity is not sufficient to confirm biological activity, which requires additional analyses.

COA on request
To enquire about a certificate of analysis (COA), send the material name, requested variant and LOT / batch number if available. Documents are not published on this page.
Request a COA by emailThe button opens your email app with a prepared enquiry. You send the message yourself. peptivapeptides@protonmail.com
A COA applies to a specific batch and documents the analytical parameters tested for that batch. The product is intended strictly for laboratory, analytical and in vitro research.
