Description and research information

Research Compound Thymosin Alpha-1 is a laboratory material for analytical and in vitro work.

What is Thymosin Alpha-1?

Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is an N-acetylated peptide of 28 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 3108 Da. It is derived from the larger precursor protein prothymosin alpha.

Research background

Tα1 was isolated in 1977 by Allan Goldstein's research group from a fraction of thymic extracts known as thymosin fraction 5. A synthetic form (thymalfasin) was later developed as a regulated pharmaceutical preparation in some countries, so a clinical literature also exists for specific indications.

Mechanism and scientific context

The literature describes effects on dendritic cells and T-lymphocyte maturation, and interactions with Toll-like receptors (notably TLR2 and TLR9) and MyD88-dependent signalling. These pathways link innate and adaptive immunity, making Tα1 a common model in immune regulation research.

Main research areas

  • dendritic cells
  • T-cell maturation and differentiation
  • TLR/MyD88 signalling
  • the relationship between innate and adaptive immunity

Level of evidence

Preclinical and clinical data exist for specific pharmaceutical preparations. They cannot be attributed to this research material, whose identity and quality are confirmed only by batch documentation.

Related research materials

Despite the similar name, Thymosin Alpha-1 is not related to thymosin beta-4 (TB-500). For other immune-related peptides see KPV, LL-37 and Thymalin.

Research use only: for laboratory, analytical and in vitro research only; not for use in humans or animals. Guidance on batch documentation is available in our COA guide.

Storage and handling

Follow the label and documentation for the specific batch. Conditions depend on the material and format; do not assume one storage regime for all products. Request missing information before ordering.

Documentation and lot

Request available records for the exact product, variant and lot. A product name alone does not link a report to the supplied batch.
