GHK-Cu and AHK-Cu are often grouped together as copper-peptide complexes, but they are not the same molecule. They differ in amino-acid sequence and in the research focus of their literature.
What is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu is a complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine (GHK) with a copper ion. It is studied in the context of fibroblasts, the extracellular matrix, tissue remodelling and dermal cell models.

What is AHK-Cu?
AHK-Cu is another copper tripeptide complex. Published research includes dermal papilla cells and hair follicle models. One frequently cited study tested AHK-Cu on isolated follicles ex vivo and on dermal papilla cells in vitro.

Key differences
| GHK-Cu | AHK-Cu | |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Copper tripeptide complex | Copper tripeptide complex |
| Broader literature focus | Fibroblasts, matrix, tissue remodelling, dermal biology | Hair follicle, dermal papilla cells, copper signalling |
| Extent of literature | Broader base of preclinical and review papers | Narrower, more specific experimental literature |
Why they should not be treated as equivalent
The shared “Cu” label means both compounds include copper, but a different peptide sequence means different interactions, stability and experimental context. Data for one molecule should therefore not automatically be attributed to the other.
