What is sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic 29-amino-acid peptide corresponding to the N-terminal portion of human GHRH (GHRH 1-29 amide), with a molecular weight of approximately 3.4 kDa. It is the shortest GHRH fragment that retains full biological activity at the receptor.

Research background

After GHRH was isolated in the early 1980s, researchers established that the first 29 amino acids carry the entire activity. Sermorelin was later used as a regulated diagnostic and pharmacological preparation, which was withdrawn from the US market in 2008 for commercial reasons.

Mechanism and scientific context

Sermorelin activates the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotrophs and stimulates GH release. The native sequence is rapidly degraded by the enzyme DPP-4, which prompted the development of more stable analogues such as CJC-1295 No DAC and tesamorelin.
