Description and specifications
Research Material HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a laboratory material for analytical and in vitro work, available in a 5000 IU variant.
What is hCG?
Human chorionic gonadotropin is a glycoprotein hormone with a molecular weight of approximately 36–37 kDa, of which about 30% consists of carbohydrate chains. It is composed of two subunits: a 92-amino-acid alpha subunit shared with LH, FSH and TSH, and a 145-amino-acid beta subunit that confers its specificity.
Research background
The hormone was described in 1927 by Selmar Aschheim and Bernhard Zondek, whose work laid the foundations of the first biological pregnancy tests. Pharmaceutical hCG is produced from urine or by recombinant technology and has its own regulatory documentation.
Mechanism and scientific context
hCG binds the LH/CG receptor, the same receptor activated by luteinising hormone, and stimulates cAMP signalling. The amount is expressed in international units (IU), which describe biological activity rather than mass, because glycosylation significantly affects activity.
Main research areas
- the LH/CG receptor and cAMP signalling
- glycoprotein hormones and glycosylation
- gonadal steroidogenesis in cellular models
- immunoassays and hCG detection
Analytical considerations
As a large glycoprotein, hCG cannot be fully characterised by HPLC purity alone. Biological activity depends on correct subunit structure and glycosylation.

COA on request
To enquire about a certificate of analysis (COA), send the material name, requested variant and LOT / batch number if available. Documents are not published on this page.
Request a COA by emailThe button opens your email app with a prepared enquiry. You send the message yourself. peptivapeptides@protonmail.com
A COA applies to a specific batch and documents the analytical parameters tested for that batch. The product is intended strictly for laboratory, analytical and in vitro research.
